“And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision.” (Surah Ali Imran: 169)

Imagine an extraordinary scene in the Strait of Hormuz: the warm, saltier, and more enclosed waters of the Persian Gulf meet the more open waters of the Gulf of Oman, which flow freely into the Indian Ocean. They greet each other, flow side by side, and from a distance even appear to merge. Yet they do not mix into one. There is an invisible barrier — a natural barzakh — that preserves the distinct character of each. Differences in salinity, temperature, and density create a perfect transitional zone, as if a divine wall prevents one from overtaking the other.

This is the wonder that Allah SWT described more than 1,400 years ago in Surah Ar-Rahman, verses 19–20:

مَرَجَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ يَلْتَقِيَانِ ۙ بَيْنَهُمَا بَرْزَخٌ لَا يَبْغِيَانِ

“He has released the two seas, meeting side by side; between them is a barrier [barzakh] so neither of them transgresses.”

This verse is not merely a description of nature, but a profound cosmic miracle (mukjizat kauniyah). Modern oceanography only came to understand the phenomenon of the “halocline” and the dynamics of these water masses in the 20th century, while the Qur’an revealed it during the time of Prophet Muhammad SAW. The Strait of Hormuz stands as a living witness: this strategic waterway is not only the world’s vital oil trade route, but also a symbol of the divine barrier that maintains the balance of the universe.

The Strait of Hormuz acts as a “gateway” that separates two distinct regions — from the energy-rich enclosed waters to the vast open sea. It prevents total chaotic mixing and ensures that neither “transgresses its bounds” (laa yabghiyaan). Subhanallah, how perfect is the creation of Allah!

A Profound Lesson for the Struggle Between Truth and Falsehood

This phenomenon carries deep significance, especially in the context of humanity’s eternal struggle. Just as the two seas meet yet maintain their boundaries, so too must the line between truth (haq) and falsehood (bathil) be firmly guarded. There must be no mixing that erases identity, and no transgression that destroys balance.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei (rahimahullah) was a leader who, for decades, served as a steadfast barzakh for the Muslim ummah. He protected Iran’s sovereignty, upheld Islamic values, and stood as a fortress of resistance against oppressive hegemony that sought to transgress all limits. His martyrdom on February 28, 2026, in a joint US-Israeli airstrike was not an end, but proof that the struggle for truth always possesses an unconquerable divine safeguard.

Today, exactly 40 days after his martyrdom, we commemorate the passing of a great mujahid. Just as the barzakh in the Strait of Hormuz continues to preserve natural harmony even amid storms, the struggle and legacy of Ayatollah Khamenei continue to flow as an enduring source of inspiration. Martyrdom is not death, but a new birth for global resistance against tyranny. May Allah SWT accept him in the highest ranks and make his martyrdom a light that continues to illuminate the path of the ummah.

Message from Yayasan Pendidikan Indonesia (YPI)

As an Indonesian educational institution holding Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC at the United Nations, YPI calls upon the entire young generation, scholars, and the community of believers to reflect deeply on the signs of Allah — both in the universe and in the Qur’an.

Let us make this commemoration a moment to:

  • Strengthen faith and integrated knowledge.
  • Uphold justice and safeguard moral boundaries amid the currents of globalization.
  • Pray for the martyrs and continue the struggle with wisdom and civility.

“Then which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?” (Surah Ar-Rahman: 13 – repeated)

May Allah SWT make us servants who always recognize His greatness, firmly guard the boundaries between truth and falsehood, and remain sincere in our struggle.
